Miyagikyo Winery was established in 1969 and refurnished in 1979 and 1989.  Mr. Taketsuru tried hard to find a balance in between the traditional Scottish distillery style and the modern style.  The Winery first launched the 12 year-old Sendai Miyagikyo Single Malt Whisky in 1989 at Sendai.  Since the main selling location was based at Sendai, so they renamed it to Sendai Single Malt Whisky at 1999.  In 2001, Mr. Taketsuru would like to expand the sales network to the whole Japan and it officially renamed to Miyagikyo Single Malt Whisky.
